Abstract
Kevlar fibre reinforced polymer composites are finding rapid applications in manufacturing concerns ranging from bicycle tyres and racing sails to body armour, bullet-proof vests, military helmets, and walking boots. The mechanism behind the failure and ballistic properties, tribological behaviour of the Kevlar composites and its role in thermal management applications are discussed. The experimental results were correlated with various mechanical tests for various types of Kevlar composites of various reinforcements and are validated through a finite element approach. The reinforcement of Kevlar fibres with various resins enhances the elastic strength and flexural strength in various applications such as aerospace and ballistic applications. The role of multi-walled carbon nanotubes plays a vital role in improving interlaminar and interfacial characteristics of Kevlar polymer-based composites are discussed in depth. © 2022 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
