Abstract
The following project report is a theoretical demonstration of the comprehensive
use of bamboo as a binding material in concrete specimen. The construction
principles involved in the designing of bamboo and structures has been discussed
in this document, the use of bamboo in the place of steel as a whole is shown to
ensure the reduction in weight, economic advantages with its strength consideraton
for safe level. Various researches and study results are used for the deduction to a
method when in most suitable for the replacement of bamboo as reinforcing
material in the right amount and the right proportion and the best possible
placement in place of steel. A method that would not compromise with the factor
of safety of the structure is shown in the report. And this study presents the
evaluation of the use of bamboo to improve the performance of reinforced concrete
at the tension crack area. To achieve this objective, a series of tests were conducted.
The bamboo used wave is of 50mm in length and 5mm in width. The amount of
additives has effect on workability and quality of concrete. However, bamboo may
prevent the growth and propagation of cracks. Due to widespread usage and
exciting infrastructure development in all over the world there is the shortage of
cement. These materials are available with high cost, to prevent this cement it can
be replaced with waste material like glass powder. In this project work, the
properties and structural behaviour of glass powder with constant percentages and
also with varying in quantity of bamboo as a binding material are discussed.
